Day 29 - Blanco to Lockhart

It's a three-peat for Bubba, our third day in hill country was as much fun as our first two. Even a strong head wind in the afternoon couldn't dampen the coasters enthusiasm for hill country.

We left our very nice overnight campsite at Blanco State Park and were off to sample some of the culinary treasures in the hill country.

Early in the ride we passed this appropriate warning that left us wondering whether the hill country cuisine we were about to sample might have the same effect on us.

Beautiful setting in Texas Hill Country with spring foliage, brick home, bluebonnets & whitetail deer.

One of our SAG stops today was in Kyle the self proclaimed pie capital of Texas.  So of course we had to go to the Texas Pie Company to see if they were that good.  While maybe not the best pies the authors have had, they were pretty darn good.

After leaving pie country our thoughts turned quickly to beef. While we may not see this guy again, it's quite possible we might be seeing some of his relatives .... on a bun.

The next stop for us was Lockhart the self proclaimed barbeque capital of Texas.  As you can see they take their barbeque seriously.

We along with about half of the population of Lockhart descended on Blacks, the most famous barbeque joint in town at lunchtime. We waited in what locals described to us as a short line for some damn good barbeque.

After threading through a long line and picking up sides and desert we finally hit the motherload of Blacks, the chef and his brisquit!! You order by weight and while we were there we saw people order between a half to two pounds of brisquit.

Adrian's Wisconsin roots led him to order the Lumberjack special which mixes the best of Texas brisquit with the best of Wisconsin sausage and throws on a bunch of onions and pickels for good measure.

We finished at another beautiful state park in Lockhart.  Here we see Coach and Tom, two expert bike mechanics trading war stories from the road.
