Day 20 - Marfa to Marathon

Today was the largest temperature extreme to date. We started out at 37 degrees in the morning and ended at 89 degrees in the afternoon.  The temperature will be 88 Friday so things are heating up.

Here is an 80 year old couple in the Bed & Breakfast Bakery in Alpine, Texas.  This couple lives in a 17 foot trailer in the New Mexico mountains in the summer and in Alpine, Texas in the winter.   This couple is fully decked out and looks like Crocodile Dundee or the Mounted Police.  Furthermore this lady was wearing a political canidate button for Rodriguez.  She said she voted for Cruz but plans to take him out!

Apparently in Marathon Target appears to be downsizing.

Here are a few photos of the high desert countryside we cycled through to Alpine, Texas.

We finished the day in Marathon. Once again as last night we are the beneficiaries of an amazing historic hotel errected in the boom times of the 1920s.  The Gage hotel is a bright light in an otherwise desolate area.

As we move inside the Gage to the white buffalo bar we encounter the mascot who has hung over the bar to inspire patrons for over 100 years.  Legend has it that a sacred white buffalo would end the suffering of Indians.  The authors are not sure if that is the case, but this buffalo has ended many of our riders sufferings.
