75 mile ride in the West Texas high desert. 37 degrees at the start and 84 at the completion. Head winds and climbing most of the ride to Marfa. The chip seal on highway 90 is like medium size lava rock without the seal. Thank goodness for my Specialized Diverge gravel bike on this surface.
Highway 90. We will be on this highway for the next six days. One of the worst stretches of road we have cycled on.

The claim to fame for the Hotel Paisano is that it was built for the oil boom that never materialized. Instead Giant was filmed here in the 1950s. Only one of a few movies the 50s idle James Dean made before he met his untimely death in a Porsche.
Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson stayed at the Hotel Paisano during the filming of Giant.
Over 60 years after Elizabeth, Rock and James were staying at the hotel the bar is still the place to be. We encourage all readers to check out the Hotel Paisano but to avoid Highway 90 at all costs.
