So you may have thought the poor cowboy who met his untimely demise at Rosa's Cantina in El Paso in the Marty Robbins song we dedicated in our blog last night had troubles....
His problems pale by comparison to what we experienced leaving El Paso today. We started with several miles of severe road construction where all our Garmins told us we were off course, followed by an unmarked bridge closure detour and finally about 10 miles of road with a bike lane that was made pretty much unusable by sand, broken beer bottles, and other assorted remnants of human civilization. At 20 miles we reached our first check in spot at a great Hispanic grocery store only to find out we were still in El Paso.
Our ride improved soon after as we escaped the city.
On our route between El Paso and Fort Hancock we encountered nearly five miles of pecan groves.
After the ride we met in the shade of a church where we were able to partake in our choice of beverages followed by amazing Thai appetizers and dinner.
This evening we are staying in Fort Hancock, Texas. Fort Hancock is where Andy Dufrense in Shawshank Redemption asked Red aka (Morgan Freeman) to cross the border after getting out of prison. Here is a picture of Andy & Red discussing the escape to Fort Hancock, Texas in Shawshank Redemption.
We ended the day with a beautiful sunset in Fort Hancock, Texas.

ReplyDeleteThe Church ladies did not bring treats since we have a chef with the tour. We stayed at the high school next door, which was very nice.
